By usual music standards, one could easily wonder why Hank's success reached the top and rooted up there. But that would mean missing the point... He was natural, he sang life, his own included, he stressed his southern drawl and his blade edged voice could slide way down to almost a cavern echo, when necessary and finally, I'd say his non-chalant, but friendly way of approaching his audience, all of that was the key to his heaven or hell, depending from the reader's philosophy of life.

Most singers are lucky to get one signiture song. Hank recorded only 66 professional sessions songs in his time. Out of those produced 34 top ten hits (most at the top), followed by 3 more from his over dubbed demos after his death. Do the counting myself of the songs most remembered from Hank. It has to be a record for any perfromer.

Any Hank williams CD is good one to start with. I recommend Hank's "40 Greatist Hits box set". In my opinion Hank can be divided in several areas: His cutting edge songs of his day (that's the greatist hits area); His spiritual songs. Then the Luke the Drifter series. Besides those you have the demo's and live performance records. I remember someone said after Hank died,that his they could get Hank's dirty laundry to spin ay 45 revolutions, they would have a hit.
