Jerusalem sends chills down my spine. A monster of a composition. It makes me long for the green hills of England, and the beauty of the countryside and the people. All hail England, the greatest nation in history. I have visited England many times, and never leave without a tear in my eye. Los Angeles Dave

Your navy suffered more damage/losses against the Japanese Kamikaze pilots because of the wooden decked carriers you had. The British navy who were also fighting in the Pacific arena suffered far fewer losses due to our carriers having metal decks. It was the British navy that first put a ramped up end on carriers to give a vertcal thrust to aircraft taking off. Oh and the first stealth fighter-bomber was the British made Mosquito, ironically made of wood. LOL

There's no need for ramps on U.S. carriers because of the steam catapults they use. They're transitioning now to magnetic ones that are more efficient and put less stress on the airframe during launch. Cats also allow the Navy to use more capable aircraft because they don't need V/STOL. To their credit, the Royal Navy have finally incorparated catapults (two, I think) on the proposed Queen Elizabeth-class supercarrier.
As for the Mosquito, I concede. It really was a "Wooden Wonder."

Correction: the Queen Elizabeth is actually 7,000 tons displacement short of being a "supercarrier."
Seriously, though: I love this song, and I'm sorry to have started a nationalistic contest!

As an Australian I think I understand why there is an EU and why Britain has now become part of it, but what I don't understand is why Britain should bend over and take the Euro-sausage up its national bum! Britain must be Britaish first and European after that. Great Britain's place in the world is bigger and more important than any European country. Anyone with half a brain outside of Europe well knows it! And anyone with a full brain within Europe, also knows it.

I totally agree with you! This country we were once proud of has little to be proud of now. Look at Rolls Royce cars, for example, they were the finest cars in the world, English. Now, would you pay that amount of money for a car with a Volkswagen engine? I know I wouldn't! Everything Britain created belongs to Europe. Boo hoo

Free Europe :
« The EU can lawfully suppress political criticism of its institutions and of leading public figures «( European Court of Justice ruling 2001 ). The European Charter of Fundamental Rights (art.2,passage 2c) states that lethal force can be used against EU citizens to quell.. "rioting, civil upheava

I'd like to say "Same thing", but it's not =P I know what I meant, and if we're honest, then England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are more like 'States' of Great Britain. We share the same currency, the same Monarchy... Don't mistake me, I'm part Irish so I don't mean a domination by England, more that we're all parts of one greater whole. =)

It's a shame that we are taught that muticulturalism is a necessary way of life in England now... Whilst I embrace other cultures with open arms and gladly celebrate them, we are running a great risk of loss of national identity. Being in our 'Special Relationship' with America is proving rather detrimental also. See Marcus Brigstocke's views on that ^_^
