It works best with the ones inside they key, when you touch your head with the metal key, the metal contacts your head and it functions better than just touching the plastic outer case.

You could also use gold plated wire and a larger voltage battery for even greater distance. I did this and I can lock my jeep from about 1.5 blocks away. =)

I took my 60 inch HDTV apart for some precious copper wire, then wrapped the remote in it, then let it run under hot water for about 6 hours, then I took apart my PS3 for the precious diode, then I stomped on it breaking it into little pieces, I then sprinkled the pieces on the wrapped in wire, wet remote, and I got 2 more inches!!
PS3?..garbage
