I think I know why Hank said "if the creek don't rise". I went to the family cemetery on the homeplace of my great-grandparents in Lawrence County, Tennessee. There was a small creek which, if it was overflowing, it would have been impossible to leave home to go anywhere. That must have been what Hank meant--if the creek was flooded, it was impossible to go anywhere! Sincerely, Lucinda M. Beddow

This guy is the best. I used to not like country music (here in Europe we don't have a big country music cult), but through his music i got kind of turned on to it. Still, he is much more than just country music, he is like the perfect mix of folk, hillbilly and blues.

Well actually among real rock music fans (and i mean rock music like in indie rock, americana and generally openminded people with taste rock, lol) he is known and quite reverenced as the down to earth, close to his audience kind of major influence in modern rock music he was, right there with Johnny Cash.

I think Hank Williams was without a doubt the best songwriter in Country music and one of the best songwriters in American popular music, period. But...he didn't write this song...the original was by Emmett Miller. He was famous for mainly performing in blackface shows which of course by today's s
tandards would be considered very racist...
